Three Gateway students were invited to participate in the annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering day at Westinghouse - Waltz Mill. Zakiya Steave-Onyundo , Elizabeth Gailey, and Carley Haas represented Gateway in the highly selective event where young women are introduced to the field of engineering by the Women In Nuclear(WIN) organization. They received in-depth knowledge about all fields of engineering and then a closer look at the field of nuclear engineering and power generation. An immersive experience was had by all, each of the girls were required to dawn radioactive protective gear and perform a mock repair and maintenance of a nuclear power plant component. This was a hands-on experience they will never forget!
