2018 Pennsylvania Music Educator's Association Honors String Orchestra Festival

Emily Yeh and Malachi Garvin participated in the 2018 Pennyslvania Music Educator's Association Honors String Orchestra Festival. This event was held at Fox Chapel Area High School. They rehearsed and performed advanced musical literature over a 2 day period with some of the finest string-instrument players in the area. Gateway AIM Academic Challenge Team

Congratulations to Joey Storey, Matt Hall, Cameron Guy, and Denny Yang for earning 1st place at the ESSPA Academic Challenge competition, hosted by West Mifflin HS on Thursday, November 15th. This is the 2nd year in a row we earned 1st place! The team faced challenging problems and trivia in the areas of math, science, history and general knowledge. Ben Meshanko, Tad Horomanski, Abby Secrist, Aral Muftuoglu, and Sam Alexander took the 2nd place spot by less than half a point! Denny Yang earned a 2nd place individual award and Tad Horomanski successfully defended his 1st place individual award two years in a row. A huge thank you to all the great teachers who prepared these students. This validates how strong our curriculum and instruction is here at Gateway HS. Please be sure to congratulate these students on a job well done! Next up...tryouts for the PA Academic State Championships! The consortium, Eastern Suburbs Special Programs Association (ESSPA), provides enrichment and extended educational opportunities to students in the eastern suburbs and consists of surrounding school districts in Allegheny and Westmoreland County.

GHS AIM Calcusolve Team

Congratulations to this years AIU Calcusolve teams for a job well done. Over 50 teams from around the region came to Duquesne University last Thursday and Friday to show off their Mathletic skills! Extremely challenging team and individual problems were presented. The 9-10th grade team consisted of Denny Yang, Gavin Spallone, Braydon Baxter, and Bilal Mukhtar. The team finished in the top ten with Gavin earning a third place individual award. The 11-12th grade team consisted of Sai Namasivayam, Ben Meshanko, Tad Horomanski, and Aral Muftuoglu. The 11-12th grade team finished in the top 15.

Gateway AIM SAT World Master Teams

Congratulations to one of our Gateway AIM SAT Word Master Teams. They earned 2nd place at the Eastern Suburban Special Programs Association’s SAT Word Master Competition hosted by Franklin Regional High School.
